Rwot Achana calls for support for Nodding Syndrome victims

By Wilfred Lamony Jwee

THE Acholi Paramount Chief Rwot David Onen Achana II has urged the Acholi community to support the needy in order to consolidate the relative peace in the area.

Rwot Acholi argued that Acholi community is still faced with serious challenges of high suicidal cases, malicious killings over disagreements and mental health disorder.

He however noted that in Acholi custom, suicide used not to be as common as it is lately.

He added that to overcome these social evils, there is still need for cultural, spiritual and medical intervention to fight against the increasing cases of mental health disorder.

Rwot Achana also said that the fight against the Nodding Syndromes disease is still wanting and called for a concerted effort save the lives of over 7000 children affected by the disease in the districts of Amuru, Gulu, Pader, Kitgum and Lamwo.

The three treatment and rehabilitation centers established in those districts are faced with serious challenges of feeding, clothing, medication, rehabilitation tools and other social amenities for the victims due to limited funding.
